Chabad’s permanent, full-time center at SUNY Stonybrook offers the 2,000 Jewish students on campus just what they need-the forces of jovial Jewish energy that are Rabbi and Mrs. Adam and Esther Stein. In making Judaism fun, Adam and Esther have built up Chabad at SUNY Stonybrook into the school’s premier Jewish student organization. Their Friday night Shabbos dinners draw an average of 50 students who enjoy the free food, spirit and spirituality that often lasts to the morning’s wee hours. Adam greets incoming freshmen with his delightfully wacky “Hebrew Hulk” get-up, complete with beard, tallis and black hat, and Esther connects to young Jewish women with the vibrant personality that is modern Chabad outreach.
Rabbi and Mrs. Stein create the perfect environment needed to cater to Jewish students’ interests, allowing them to experience traditional Judaism on their own terms. With humor and heart, from weekly educational sessions to regular social events, Chabad SUNY Stonybrook conveys the soul of Judaism at its best.
